METAPHORICAL ORIGIN OF LATIN TERMS IN CLINICAL TERMINOLOGY

Abstract

This article provides a comprehensive study of the metaphorical nature of Latin clinical terms. The purpose of the study is to identify and analyze Latin terms in clinical terminology. Dictionaries of Latin terminology, as well as selected terms from textbooks on the Latin language, were used as research methods and materials. The analysis used descriptive, lexical-semantic, structural, comparative methods of linguistic research. An etymological, semantic and structural analysis of 50 clinical terms was carried out. DOI: 10.36078/1710234162 118 O‘zbekistonda xorijiy tillar, 2024,10-jild, № 1 (54), b.117-128 Based on etymological observations, we identify 5 main groups of terms; zoomorphic terms formed in the image of animals; a group of terms based on a specific action; mythologism terms containing names from ancient mythology; as well as terms based on the similarity of external characteristics. This article examines the structure and origin of some Latin terms related to clinical terminology. Among the Latin clinical terms, we have identified examples of metaphorical formation.
