Abstract

The article examines the linguistic phenomenon of redundancy in fiction texts as a necessary condition for ensuring adequate interpretation of information by the recipient. The research aims to determine the functional and conceptual significance of redundancy means. The main methodological assumptions of the research are based on a critical analysis of the linguistic literature on cognitive linguistics, cognitive stylistics, and the theory of fiction texts. The main means of the cognitive category of redundancy in fiction texts are identified, such as repetition, periphrasis, and convergence of stylistic devices, and their role in distributing information in fiction texts is explored. The analysis is conducted on the material of English-language fiction of the late XIX and early XX centuries. The functional significance of the category of redundancy in fiction texts is determined, as well as its stylistic, pragmatic, and cognitive functions in their interaction. Special attention is given to the cognitive function of redundancy means, which involves highlighting conceptually significant information. The results of the work go back to the cognitive nature of redundancy means and their intentional use in fiction texts, as well as substantiating their functional and conceptual significance.
