THE LINGUISTIC OCCURRENCE OF PRAGMATIC PURPOSE IN THE TEXT OF FRENCH RECOMMENDATIONS
Abstract
This article discusses how pragmatic goals are expressed in French letters of recommendation and the problems associated with this. In particular, the pragmatic goal and its role in official texts are analyzed based on the ideas and examples presented by linguists. The implementation of communicative goals in official documents depends on the correct selection of linguistic units and the effective use of speech strategies. Therefore, using pragmatic analysis, special attention is paid to the methods and means used by the speaker or author of the document to achieve the goal. The article also examines the interrelationships between initial and final goals, based on intensive analysis methods put forward by linguists. In particular, the linguistic units used to provide information about the positive qualities of candidates and recommend them through selected letters of recommendation are analyzed, and positive information about the candidate's professional qualifications, successes, and future activities is presented. In general, the article focuses on the linguistic strategies of official and departmental documents in expressing pragmatic goals, not only in terms of transmitting information, but also in terms of achieving the addressee's resulting goals.
