VOCABULARY WITH QUANTITATIVE MEANING AS A SOURCE OF EMOTIONAL AND EXPRESSIVE CONNOTATION IN THE LITERARY TEXT OF CHINGIZ AITMATOV
Abstract
The article deals with the emotional stylistic coloured vocabulary with quantitative meaning on the material of Ch. Aitmatov's fiction texts. Artistic text as a multidimensional and multilevel phenomenon is an integral system that helps to convey the author's perception of the real reality. The analysis of excerpts from the works of Ch. Aitmatov with the use of stylistic figures and allegories allowed to reveal the features of reproduction of archetypal images and their representation in the new linguistic reality, as well as their relationship with modern moral and ethical standards of man. Linguistic analysis of emotionally-expressive stylistically coloured words with the meaning of quantity helped to reveal the integrity of images and the multivalence of metaphors in Aitmatov's artistic portrayal of the world, the relationship with folklore motifs, the symbolism of totem animals, which emphasises man's connection with nature, with ancient ancestors, with cosmic objects. The connotative meanings of words are studied with division into emotional, expressive and evaluative semes. This distinction helps to reveal the structural features of semantic connotative meanings and to clarify the distinction between concepts and terms such as peyorisation and amelioration. The article attempts to distinguish the concepts of stylistically negative connotations and stylistically reduced connotative evaluation, i.e. peyorativity, while ameliorativity and peyorativity are traditionally regarded as positive and negative connotative colouring. The material of the study was the works by Ch. Aitmatov: “When the Mountains Fall”, “The White Cloud of Genghis Khan”, “A Quill Dog Running by the Edge of the Sea”. The methods of semanticstylistic analysis, intralinguistic comparison and theoretical description were used in the course of the scientific research, which helped to determine the theoretical and practical significance of the scientific problem.
