Abstract

The article on the basis of speech acts studies the conversations of the US Highway Patrol police officer and the Road Patrol Service officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan (hereinafter – the Uzbek Road Patrol Service officer) with the driver of the vehicle regarding the violation. The purpose of the study is to reveal the reasons for the use of speech acts that served to increase effectiveness in the speech of a US Highway Patrol police officer and an Uzbek Road Patrol Service officer. The problem is studied based on the descriptive-qualifying method. The sentences used by the US Highway Patrol officer and the Uzbek Road Patrol Service officer during the investigation are taken as a source. J. Searle’s theory is used in the analysis of sentences by speech acts. Representative, directive, commissive, expressive and declarative types of speech acts were found in the investigations. The results show that the representative speech act is active in communication. The use of the directive speech act in questions of inquiry, clarification, and confirmation makes it possible to reveal the necessary information. Meanwhile, drivers used representative speech acts to inform, explain, describe, confirm or deny. Feeling the issue of responsibility, both sides tried to make their point clear.
