SYNTAX OF THE INFORMATION HEADING: COMPARISON OF UZBEK AND KAZAKH MEDIA
Abstract
The article presents a comparative analysis of syntactic features in the headline structures of the leading online media in Uzbekistan (Gazeta.uz, Kun.uz, Podrobno.uz, UzNews) and Kazakhstan (Kazinform, Nur.kz, Tengrinews, Zakon.kz). The syntactic organization of headlines in modern media is of particular research interest, as it reflects a variety of information presentation strategies. Based on the material of 480 headlines, a detailed analysis of the structural characteristics of the sentences was carried out, considering their distribution into three thematic rubrics: «Politics», «Sports» and «Culture». Special attention is paid to the analysis of sentence types (narrative, interrogative), their structural characteristics (simple/complex (two-component headlines were allocated to a separate group), one-member/two-members) and the use of isolated constructions. The main results of the research reveal the following in both countries: political discourse allows for the greatest variability, including complex sentences and interrogative constructions. The cultural rubric is characterized by a balance between information content and expressiveness, while sports news is characterized by maximum standardization of syntactic structures. Moreover, the Kazakh media demonstrate a pronounced propensity for two-component constructions. Uzbek publications, despite the presence of two-component structures, give greater preference to standard full two-members sentences. These differences reflect not only the specifics of media practices in these two countries, but also the specifics of the perception of information by the target audience in each country.
