HOMONYMOUS CONNECTIONS OF ENGLISH AND UZBEK NAMES OF KITCHEN UTENSILS WITH OTHER WORDS
Abstract
This article focuses on the comparative analysis of homonymous relations based on the names of kitchen utensils in the English and Uzbek languages. The research studies the correspondence between lexical units denoting household items and kitchen utensils and other words that differ in form and meaning. The study classifies homonyms into full, partial and grammatical types. The study identifies the reasons for the emergence of homonymy, such as random sound correspondences, historical changes, and lexical borrowings. Specific examples illustrate how different parts of speech form homonymous models when English and Uzbek names of kitchen utensils develop homonymous relations with other words. The example of the English language shows cases when the names of kitchen utensils can denote such concepts as a part of the human body, sports, or names of trees, and in the Uzbek language such concepts as a natural phenomenon, a medical concept, a musical instrument, or animals. It is proven that in the English language, unlike the Uzbek language, homonymous pairs are formed by the transition of a word from one part of speech to another without any changes. The article emphasizes that studying of homonymy in the lexical field of kitchen utensils, an essential part of everyday vocabulary, has both theoretical and practical significance. The results maybe valuable for lexicology, lexicography, and teaching foreign languages, as well as for a deeper understanding of the cultural and linguistic features of both nations.
