Abstract

The article explores the methodological foundations of frame semantics and reframing as key cognitive mechanisms of text interpretation. Central attention is given to the theoretical framework proposed by C. Fillmore, according to which the meaning of a linguistic unit is revealed through the activation of a corresponding knowledge structure — a frame. The study examines the main types of frames and highlights their functional role in the interpretative process. Particular focus is placed on reframing, conceptualized as a transformational process that enables the emergence of an alternative, reinterpreted perspective on a given phenomenon of reality. Drawing on the poetic text by E.E. Cummings, the article demonstrates how metaphorical devices trigger the activation of a new interpretative speech frame, contributing to a shift in the reader’s perceptual focus. The analysis of the sonnet reveals that the integration of graphic, lexical, grammatical, and semantic deviations not only facilitates the prominence of the figurative construct but also contributes to the generation of a new conceptual worldview. The study identifies key functional dimensions of frame structures, including cognitive, text-structuring, communicative, and style-forming functions. The article underscores the methodological significance of the framebased approach in the cognitive-stylistic analysis of poetic text.
