LITERARY-AESTHETIC CATEGORIES OF THE LITERARY TIME OF HISTORICAL NOVELS
Abstract
In the article, it is analyzed that past time is the main time of historical chronos, creative transformation of this reality of historical time into the reality of artistic time, in the hierarchy of epic times of historical novels, and at the same time, in their integrated complex system, the form of artistic past time is compatible with real history. The artistic present is the core of the illusion of the epic times of historical novels: both the artistic past and the artistic future exist in the “bosom” of the artistic present. In the system of artistic time, the artistic future is relatively abstract, partially realistic, mostly symbolic-philosophical, the most important thing is the epic time, which is a complex mixture of different times. It is creatively integrated in the content of an “open” solution consisting of mixed tenses, concrete future or non-future and symbolic artistic future tenses. Historical time is the main category in the epic time system of historical novels. The fact that it “absorbs” all other categories of the time into its composition is a genre feature. Historical novels in the analysis are of three types from the point of view of their specific historical times: a) historical novels whose historical evidence does not depart from historical events (“Starry Nights”, “Passage of Generations”, “Treasure of Ulugbek”); b) historical novel (“The Old World”), which is given a wider place in relation to artistic texture and generalization; v) historical novels (all works in the analysis) consisting of an artistic texture of historical evidence. Genre-specific typology for all three types of historical novels is that historical chronos is almost the same as chronological time as the main category.
